Our purpose

A public-domain book can be free and still deserve a careful edition.

Bridges Publishing is a small press for selected public-domain works: readable print editions, useful digital records and prices kept close to access rather than maximum margin.

Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks and similar archives perform an extraordinary public service. But a source file is not automatically a finished paperback, hardcover or ebook.

Too many physical reprints are little more than public-domain text poured into a page template. Chapters break oddly. Front matter is missing. Spacing, hierarchy and page geometry are left to chance.

We rebuild selected books as editions: structured, typeset, recorded and priced for people who want to read them.

01

Readable by design

We reconstruct document structure and make deliberate decisions about typography, page dimensions, hierarchy and navigation.

02

Transparent editions

Every catalogue page records the author, translator where known, original publication year, formats and ISBNs associated with our edition.

03

Access before margin

Our aim is not to extract the highest possible price from freely available literature. We price with affordability and the realities of print production in mind.

A note on pricing

As close to production cost as practical.

Print-on-demand prices include printing, marketplace distribution and region-specific costs that we do not control. Within those constraints, we keep accessibility—not margin maximisation—as the guiding principle.

Prices and availability shown by retailers may vary by format and marketplace.
